Inhibition of acyl‐CoA synthetase long‐chain isozymes decreases multiple myeloma cell proliferation and causes mitochondrial dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Triacsin C inhibition of the acyl‐CoA synthetase long chain (ACSL) family decreases multiple myeloma cell survival, proliferation, mitochondrial respiration, and membrane potential. Made with Biorender.com. Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer of plasma cells with a 5‐year survival rate of 59%.

Case report: Metaplastic carcinoma presenting as a breast abscess [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a rare neoplasm containing a mixture of epithelial and mesenchymal elements. The epithelial component is usually ductal carcinoma but may include other variants of breast carcinomas including squamous carcinoma and ...

Breast Cancer Multi-classification from Histopathological Images with Structured Deep Learning Model

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Automated breast cancer multi-classification from histopathological images plays a key role in computer-aided breast cancer diagnosis or prognosis. Breast cancer multi-classification is to identify subordinate classes of breast cancer (Ductal carcinoma ...

Clinical significance of stratifying prostate cancer patients through specific circulating genes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We tested a specific panel of genes representative of luminal, neuroendocrine and stem‐like cells in the blood of prostate cancer patients, showing predictive value from diagnosis to late stages of disease. This approach allows monitoring of treatment responses and outcomes at specific time points in trajectories.

Deep learning-based assessment of tumor-associated stroma for diagnosing breast cancer in histopathology images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Diagnosis of breast carcinomas has so far been limited to the morphological interpretation of epithelial cells and the assessment of epithelial tissue architecture. Consequently, most of the automated systems have focused on characterizing the epithelial regions of the breast to detect cancer.

Two-stage multi-scale breast mass segmentation for full mammogram analysis without user intervention [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Mammography is the primary imaging modality used for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. X-ray mammogram analysis mainly refers to the localization of suspicious regions of interest followed by segmentation, towards further lesion classification into benign versus malignant.

Uji Diagnostik Utrasonografi Gray Scale Dibandingkan Dengan Histopatologi Pada Karsinoma Payudara Tipe Invasif Di RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin, Bandung [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Gray scale ultrasonography (US) is the best choice modality for invasive breast carcinoma. Invasive breast carcinoma is the commonest breast carcinoma (65-80%) and grouped into Malignant breast tumor that invade adjacent tissue with distant metastses ...

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Low grade Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS): how best to describe it? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: In the absence of definitive data about the natural history of DCIS the appropriateness of describing DCIS as cancer is controversial. METHODS: We conducted a survey amongst British Breast Group (BBG) members, to determine which descriptions ...

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional
