Optimizing Aesthetic Outcomes in Delayed Breast Reconstruction

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open, 2017
Background:. The need to restore both the missing breast volume and breast surface area makes achieving excellent aesthetic outcomes in delayed breast reconstruction especially challenging.

The risk of reconstruction failure following a mastectomy, breast reconstruction and radiotherapy depending on the reconstruction technique

open access: yesNowotwory, 2021
Improvements in breast reconstruction surgery techniques lately observed have changed the clinical practice in patients with breast cancer. Nowadays, every patient diagnosed with breast cancer clinical stage I, II and III, except for inflammatory breast ...

Breast reconstruction with breast implants.

open access: yesActa bio-medica : Atenei Parmensis, 2018
Breast cancer is the most common noncutaneous malignancy among women worldwide. After a breast cancer removal procedure, women are asked to decide about breast reconstruction, mainly to improve their life quality, and they can choose from among many options.

Intrapatient tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution in an autopsy study of metastatic salivary gland cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

A Breast Reduction Technique for the Free DIEP Flap Post Breast Reconstruction

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Summary:. Breast flap remodeling is a common procedure after breast reconstruction. We present a unique approach to breast reduction using a superomedial pedicle inverted “T” technique in patients with previous free deep inferior epigastric perforator ...

From Geometry to Function: Programmable Mechanical Response in 3D‐Printed Adipose‐Inspired Soft Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven design of soft cellular metamaterials is systematically investigated by combining experiments, finite element modeling, and statistical prediction. The study quantifies how unit cell geometry and material properties govern stiffness, instability, densification, and energy absorption.

Functional MRI to evaluate "sense of self" following perforator flap breast reconstruction. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BACKGROUND: Breast reconstruction is associated with high levels of patient satisfaction. Previous patient satisfaction studies have been subjective. This study utilizes functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to objectively evaluate "sense of self"

History of Breast Reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yesSeminars in Plastic Surgery, 2004
The treatment of breast cancer has evolved significantly from the original surgical technique described by Halsted. The reconstruction of the breast has also been a large interest among surgeons and patients. The history of breast reconstruction dates back to the 1800s with an attempt to transplant a lipoma to a mastectomy site.

Multidimensional Cellular Micro‐Compartments to Model Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Dormancy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) is an understudied subtype of breast cancer that is susceptible to late recurrences. In this study, micro‐compartmentalization techniques spanning multiple dimensions, including 2D, pseudo‐3D, and 3D, are integrated to uncover the mechanisms underlying ILC dormancy, revealing the central role of p27Kip1.
