Moving breathers and breather-to-soliton conversions for the Hirota equation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2015
We find that the Hirota equation admits breather-to-soliton conversion at special values of the solution eigenvalues. This occurs for the first-order, as well as higher orders, of breather solutions. An analytic expression for the condition of the transformation is given and several examples of transformations are presented. The values of these special

Stability of Quantum Breathers [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2006
Using two methods we show that a quantized discrete breather in a 1-D lattice is stable. One method uses path integrals and compares correlations for a (linear) local mode with those of the quantum breather. The other takes a local mode as the zeroth order system relative to which numerical, cutoff-insensitive diagonalization of the Hamiltonian is ...

Ghost Interaction of Breathers [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
Mutual interaction of localized nonlinear waves, e.g., solitons and modulation instability patterns, is a fascinating and intensively-studied topic of nonlinear science. Here we report the observation of a novel type of breather interaction in telecommunication optical fibers, in which two identical breathers propagate with opposite group velocities ...

Some Breathers and Multi-breathers for FPU-Type Chains [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2019
We consider several breather solutions for FPU-type chains that have been found numerically. Using computer-assisted techniques, we prove that there exist true solutions nearby, and in some cases, we determine whether or not the solution is spectrally stable. Symmetry properties are considered as well. In addition, we construct solutions that are close

Hydrodynamics of periodic breathers [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2014
We report the first experimental observation of periodic breathers in water waves. One of them is Kuznetsov–Ma soliton and another one is Akhmediev breather. Each of them is a localized solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on a constant background. The difference is in localization which is either in time or in space.

Breather Wave Molecules [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
We present both a theoretical description and experimental observation of the nonlinear mutual interactions between a pair of copropagative breathers in the framework of the focusing one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. As a general case, we show that the resulting bound state of breathers exhibits moleculelike behavior with quasiperiodic ...

Coupled Airy breathers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2014
The dynamics of two component coupled Airy beams is investigated. In the linear propagation regime a complete analytic solution describes breather like propagation of the two components featuring non-diffracting self-accelerating Airy behavior. The superposition of two beams with different input properties opens the possibility to design more complex ...
