Abstract In this work, we briefly describe the accelerator breeder reactors (ABR) and their possible uses both for production of energy and isotopes. This study indicates that ABRs can produce fuel, which would generate 2–15 times the electrical energy, ABRs consume. The energy gain depends on the type of ABR used.
