Neutronic assessment of HCCR breeding blanket for DEMO

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2019
Abstract Helium-cooled ceramic reflector (HCCR) blanket concept was proposed as a DEMO breeding blanket in Korea. It adopted lithium ceramic breeder, graphite reflector to reduce the beryllium multiplier, reduced activation ferritic-martensitic steel as a structural material, and high pressure/temperature helium as a coolant.

Breeding blanket development for NET

Fusion Engineering and Design, 1989
Abstract The design of blankets for NET is reviewed. Three categories of blankets are discussed: non breeding shield blankets for the physics phase, tritium producing driver blankets to operate the NET machine for extended periods of time in the technology test phase, and DEMO relevant blankets, which shall demonstrate their performance as test ...

Breeding blanket for DEMO

Fusion Engineering and Design, 1993
This paper presents the main design features, their rationale, and the main critical issues for the development, of the four DEMO-relevant blanket concepts presently being investigated within the framework of the European Test-Blanket Development Programme.

TRITIUM BREEDING CALCULATION IN A STELLARATOR BLANKET

Problems of Atomic Science and Technology, 2019
In current blanket projects, tritium breeding ratio (TBR), the ratio of tritium production rate to the neutron production rate, is low (1.1…1.2). The MCNPX Monte-Carlo code has been used to model the neutron kinetics and to look for a principal possibility of increase TBR within a stellarator blanket limited space.

The manufacturing technologies of the European breeding blankets

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2004
In the European Union, the basic manufacturing technologies have been selected for the two reference DEMO breeding blanket concepts: the helium cooled pebble bed and the helium cooled lithium lead. These technologies have been tested in the past years on small-scale samples and mock-ups, are presently under further development, and are now being ...

ITER reference breeding blanket design

Fusion Engineering and Design, 1999
The ITER reference breeding blanket design is water-cooled and is characterised by the use of the neutronic multiplier and breeder materials in the form of pebbles. Besides the achievement, with margin, of the tritium breeding ratio (TBR) minimum requirement, it exhibits an internal layout allowing it to withstand properly electromagnetic loads during ...

A breeding blanket in ITER-FEAT

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2003
Abstract At the beginning of life ITER-FEAT will be equipped with a shielding blanket; nevertheless since many advantages can be envisaged in having a breeding blanket in the machine, such a concept has been investigated as well. It is a water-cooled blanket in which both ceramic breeder and beryllium multiplier are present in the form of single ...

Multilayered Blanket Concept for Tritium Breeding Assemblies Blanket Engineering

Nuclear Technology - Fusion, 1983
The multilayered concept of the fusion blanket is introduced, and it is shown that with this concept the lithium inventory can be reduced by an order of magnitude compared to that in the block conc...

Breeding blanket concepts for fusion and materials requirements

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2002
This paper summarizes the design and performances of recent breeding blanket concepts and identifies the key material issues associated with them. An assessment of different classes of concepts is carried out by balancing out the potential performance of the concepts with the risk associated with the required material development.

Cylindrical breeding blankets for fusion reactors

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2018
Abstract Blankets with a cylindrical structure have been developed for a water-cooled ceramic breeder concept considering a pipe break inside the blanket container. Most existing studies have examined a box structure for the blanket container. Structural change from a box to a cylinder can decrease in first wall thickness while maintaining the ...
