Tritium Extraction from Liquid Blankets of Fusion Reactors via Membrane Gas–Liquid Contactors

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Engineering
The exploitation of fusion energy in tokamak reactors relies on efficient and reliable tritium management. The tritium needed to sustain the deuterium–tritium fusion reaction is produced in the Li-based blanket surrounding the plasma chamber, and ...

Three-dimensional model of DEMO-FNS facility considering neutronics and radiation shield problems

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
Recent neutronics studies of blankets for tokamak-based demonstration fusion neutron source (DEMO-FNS) showed a crucial influence of coolant composition on the transmutation rate of transuranic elements and tritium breeding in the system.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Preoperative circulating tumor cells integrated with imaging analysis for prognostic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

Single‐cell DNA methylation profiling: Technologies, computation, and applications in precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell DNA methylation (scDNAme) profiling maps epimutational clonal evolution, revealing mechanisms of malignancy and therapeutic resistance across diverse cancer types. By providing a high‐resolution landscape of intratumoral heterogeneity, these technologies empower precise patient stratification, guide the development of enhanced ...

Data integration for decision making in wheat breeding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Plant breeding is a production process requiring the creation of germplasm through taking existing successful cultivars and crossing them with new parental lines with agronomic and quality attributes of interest.

Targeting transcription factors associated with hemoglobinopathies: Lessons from successful interventions and implications for cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the transcription factors, repressive chromatin‐modifying complexes, and epigenetic mechanisms that control fetal hemoglobin repression. Notably, many regulators of γ‐globin silencing also function in transcriptional and epigenetic networks that drive cancer, highlighting opportunities to translate advances in hemoglobinopathy ...

Cross-section sensitivity of tritium breeding in fusion reactor blankets [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
ion; San Diego, California, USA (16 Apr 1974). The objective of the present study is the identification of crosssection uncertainties which might produce uncertainties of the order of several percent in the tritium breeding ratio in fusion reactor ...

Numerical Investigation and Analytical Modeling of MHD Pressure Drop in Lead–Lithium Flows Within Rectangular Ducts Under Variable Magnetic Field for Nuclear Fusion Reactors

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Engineering
The breeding blanket is a key component of tokamaks, primarily responsible for extracting heat from fusion reactions and for tritium breeding, which is essential to ensure a fusion reactor’s fuel self-sufficiency.
