Structural assessment of the gripper interlock of the DEMO breeding blanket transporter

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
The maintenance of the DEMO Breeding Blanket (BB) remotely is a crucial aspect in development of the DEMO power plant. It is a challenge due to the huge mass of the BB segment of about 180 tons. A new concept for the BB transporter has recently been developed.

Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Crushing behaviour of Li4SiO4 and Li2TiO3 ceramic particles

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2022
The crushing behaviour of certain ceramic particles–such as Li4SiO4 and Li2TiO3 have been investigated herein, which are considered to be ideal particles for use in the pebble-bed structure of tritium breeding blankets.

Parametric fits to 1-D neutron transport calculations for lithium-vanadium fusion power plant blankets in cylindrical and spherical geometries [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The authors performed 1-D coupled, neutron-gamma transport calculations for lithium-vanadium blankets and lithium-sodium cauldron pot blankets in cylindrical and spherical geometries. Parametric fits to the data are supplied for subsequent use in systems

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
