Influence of vitamin E and carcass feeding supplementation on fecal glucocorticoid and androgen metabolites in male black-footed ferrets (Mustela nigripes).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
In recent years, the ex situ population of the endangered black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes; ferret) has experienced a decline in normal sperm morphology (from 50% to 20%), which may be linked to inbreeding depression and/or a dietary change.

Expression and co‐localization of RFRP‐3 and kisspeptin during breeding and non‐breeding season in the hypothalamus of male rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta)

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, 2022
Propose The mechanism that underpins how RFRP‐3 and kisspeptin interacts are not fully understood in higher primates. This study therefore set out to assess RFRP‐3 and kisspeptin expression and their morphological interactions in the breeding, and in the

Asymmetric seasonal nest site competition between Great Tits and House Sparrows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Using nest boxes with different sized entrances, we experimentally examined whether a large species of cavity breeder (House Sparrow, Passer domesticus) affects the nest box occupancy and breeding success of a smaller species (Great Tit, Parus major ...

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Dissection and Fine-Mapping of Two QTL Controlling Grain Size Linked in a 515.6-kb Region on Chromosome 10 of Rice

open access: yesPlants
Grain size is a primary determinant of grain weight, which is one of the three essential components of rice grain yield. Mining the genes that control grain size plays an important role in analyzing the regulation mechanism of grain size and improving ...

The relationships of breeding stage to daytime singing behaviour and song perch height in Bermuda white‐eyed vireos Vireo griseus bermudianus

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, 2023
Bird song is crucial for attracting mates and defending territories, but different types of song or different singing behaviours may be involved in acquiring or maintaining each resource.

Tunable Plug‐and‐Play Meta‐Nanogenerator Materials for Multi‐Range Force Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The multifunctional and tunable meta‐nanogenerator material system combines a mechanical metamaterial and a triboelectric nanogenerator enabling self‐powered, real‐time force sensing across application‐specific ranges. Geometrical tuning adjusts stiffness and the force sensing range, while modular integration streamlines assembly.

Variations in agronomic and grain quality traits of rice grown under irrigated lowland conditions in West Africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Rice breeding in West Africa has been largely skewed toward yield enhancement and stress tolerance. This has led to the variable grain quality of locally produced rice in the region.

A Novel GmSIN1‐GmRNF1a‐GmCSN5a Module Determines Soybean Salt Tolerance and Yield Under Saline Soil Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soybean production is severely threatened by salt stress. This study reveals that the GmSIN1‐GmRNF1a‐GmCSN5a module enhances salt tolerance by stabilizing the GmSIN1 protein. GmRNF1a acts as an E3 ligase to ubiquitinate GmSIN1 for degradation, a process inhibited by GmCSN5a.

Optimization of spray operation parameters of unmanned aerial vehicle confers adequate levels of control of fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda)

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionThe fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda, is a serious threat to maize production. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) represent a promising method for controlling FAW outbreaks.
