Residual stress in clay bricks
Clay bricks from several sources were found to be in a stressed condition, as indicated by their length changes that apparently resulted from stress relief. The stress, attributed to the firing of the bricks during manufacture, varied in amount from very low values to a maximum estimated to be about 12.0 N/mm[2].
