Rigidity of abutments in integral abutment bridges
Structure and Infrastructure Engineering, 2011In this article, we present the results from a numerical and an experimental analysis of the Scotch Road integral abutment bridge located in Trenton, New Jersey. A three-dimensional, non-linear finite element (FE) model of the bridge has been developed to study the effect of thermal loading on pile–soil interaction.

CLSM bridge abutments – Finite element modeling and parametric study
Controlled low strength materials (CLSMs) are increasingly gaining importance in the construction industry. Among many applications, CLSMs can be used for rapid and sustainable construction of bridge abutments.

Breaching of Bridge Abutments and Scour at Exposed Abutment Columns
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2016AbstractOur note presents laboratory findings on the breaching of the earthfill embankments of bridge abutments at river crossings and the consequent scour at exposed abutment columns, the structur...

Endosseous implants as fixed bridge abutments
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1969Absence of teeth in one or both posterior quadrants of the mouth need no longer be an obstacle to obtaining a fixed prosthesis. The step-by-step explanation of a technic for endosseous implants as fixed bridge abutments is followed by a report of six cases.

Local and Contraction Scour at Bridge Abutments
Building Partnerships, 2000In most experimental studies on erosion at bridge piers and abutments, the value of the blockage ratio b/B between the transversal obstacle dimension and the flume width is kept as small as possible (typically b/B b is not small compared to B so that the average acceleration due to contraction is expected to increase the scour effects of the ...

Soil-Bridge Abutment Interaction
1988Presented herein are analyses of 6 bridge approaches. Lateral movement and settlement of the foundations and embankments are discussed. Result·s of slope stability and finite element analyses are related to measured movements. A graph for predicting approach pavement settlement is included.
