Modeling of Progressive Scouring of a Pier-on-Bank

open access: yesCivilEng, 2022
Scour, caused by swiftly moving water, can remove alluvial sediment and soil, creating holes surrounding a bridge component and compromising the integrity of the bridge structure.

Ship-Bridge-Pier Protective Systems

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1980, 1980
This paper describes the analytical and experimental studies on the behaviors of a ship subjected to a sheering flow induced around a rectangular solid-type marine structure, and also deals with ship-structure protective systems against ship impacts. Large bridge piers, which are constructed in a narrow waterway with strong tidal currents, are treated ...

Shaking Table Test of High Pier and Small Radius Curved Bridge under Multi-point Excitation

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
The non-uniform stratum and uneven surface have the complicated seismic spatial variability. The seismic response of high pier and small radius curved bridge caused by the seismic specificity of this kind of terrain has not been systematically studied ...

Mechanical Analysis of Junction Pier of Fuzhou-Xiamen High-Speed Railway Rigid-Frame Bridge

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2023
The continuous rigid structure bridge on both sides of the Quanzhou Bay Crossing Bridge uses double-limbed thin-walled flexible piers for the junction piers between the links, and the whole bridge has no bearings.

Reliability Analysis of the Main Pier during the Construction Period of HLCR Bridges

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
In the process of cradle construction for high-pier, long-span, continuous, rigid-frame (HLCR) bridges, the strength failure and instability damage of the main pier will directly affect the bridge construction safety.

Expected seismic performance of irregular isolated bridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Bridge structures are usually built on irregular topographical surfaces which create substructures with pier heights of different lengths. Three height irregularity types of typical RC medium length bridges are analyzed aimed at determining the best ...

Near-Fault Seismic Response Analysis of Bridges Considering Girder Impact and Pier Size

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
Given the influence of near-fault vertical seismic action, we established a girder-spring-damping-rod model of a double-span continuous girder bridge and used the transient wave function expansion method and indirect modal function method to calculate ...

Pier Luigi Nervi, bridge designer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
“A bridge is for an engineer what a dome is for an architect”. The construction of a bridge is a central event in a professional life of an engineer.

Endocytic Control of Cell‐Autonomous and Non‐Cell‐Autonomous Functions of p53

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NUMB Ex3‐containing isoforms localize to the plasma membrane, where they recruit p53 through SNX9 and direct it to multivesicular bodies and exosomes. Exported p53 is taken up by neighboring cells and activates nuclear programs, revealing an intercellular, exosome‐based pathway that might help establish a tumor‐suppressive microenvironment.

Potential of Epoxidised Natural Rubber Alumina Nanoparticles (ENRAN) sheet as local bridge pier scour countermeasure

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2021
This study attempts to reduce scour depth due to localised scour around a bridge pier by introducing Epoxidised Natural Rubber Alumina Nanoparticles (ENRAN) sheet acting as bridge pier sheathing.
