Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

BRIGHT HOT IMPACTS BY ERUPTED FRAGMENTS FALLING BACK ON THE SUN: MAGNETIC CHANNELLING [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2016
ABSTRACT Dense plasma fragments were observed to fall back on the solar surface by the Solar Dynamics Observatory after an eruption on 2011 June 7, producing strong extreme-ultraviolet brightenings. Previous studies investigated impacts in regions of weak magnetic field. Here we model the

Paclitaxel induces NM2‐dependent cellular contraction through GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and RhoA/ROCK activation in cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Taxanes are widely used chemotherapeutics whose effects on cellular mechanics remain poorly understood. We show that paclitaxel induces rapid cellular contraction by promoting GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and non‐muscle myosin II activation through RhoA/ROCK.

Balance and imbalance in dark and bright (OFF and ON) visual channels

open access: yesScientific Reports
Abstract The visual system uses separate neuron channels to distinguish figures that are darker or brighter than their background. We displayed letters as dark and/or bright pulses, with pulse energy scaled as a function of background energy, and assessed the probability of letter recognition as a function of pulse energy and polarity.

ON THE ACTIVE REGION BRIGHT GRAINS OBSERVED IN THE TRANSITION REGION IMAGING CHANNELS OF IRIS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2016
ABSTRACT The Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) provides spectroscopy and narrow band slit-jaw (SJI) imaging of the solar chromosphere and transition region at unprecedented spatial and temporal resolutions. Combined with high-resolution context spectral imaging of the photosphere and chromosphere as provided by the Swedish 1 m

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Operation of normal-conducting rf cavities in multi-Tesla magnetic fields for muon ionization cooling: A feasibility demonstration

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2020
Ionization cooling is the preferred method for producing bright muon beams. This cooling technique requires the operation of normal conducting, radio-frequency (rf) accelerating cavities within the multi-tesla fields of dc solenoid magnets.

Spectroscopic Approach to Correction and Visualisation of Bright-Field Light Transmission Microscopy Biological Data

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
The most realistic information about a transparent sample such as a live cell can be obtained using bright-field light microscopy. Under high-intensity pulsing LED illumination, we captured a primary 12-bit-per-channel (bpc) response from an observed ...

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...
