Magnitude Estimation of the Brightness of Brief Foveal Stimuli
Science, 1962Eighteen observers judged the apparent brightness of light flashes that varied in both duration and luminance. The median numerical estimations (made relative to a standard flash) confirmed three principles: the reciprocity between luminance and duration (Bloch's law), the enhancement of brightness at about 50 milliseconds (Broca-Sulzer effect), and ...

The psychophysical experimental methods affect the observer???s evaluation because of the bias error. Therefore, it is necessary to design experiments properly. In this study, the experimental methods were compared for the brightness scale experiment, and the effect of stimuli setting was investigated. Magnitude estimation and magnitude production were

Magnitude Estimations of Brightness for Lights of Different Wavelengths
The Journal of General Psychology, 1974Summary A magnitude estimation procedure was used to obtain brightness estimations for 16 subjects with the use of lights of different wavelengths. Color filters were combined to produce wavelength bands of 460–470 nm, 520–540 nm, 590–610 nm, and 680–700 nm and light intensity was varied over a wide range by neutral density filters.

Four-Component Modeling of Brightness Profiles of Spiral Galaxies and Model Total Magnitudes
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011We present an improved decomposition method in the spirit of the method of Kormendy (1970). We account 4 profile components: kernel, bulge, disk and halo (or thick disk). Each component may be fitted by the Sersic “1/n” law with user supplied n of code derived optimal n.
