The Helmholtz-Kohlrausch (H-K) effect, i.e., an increase in brightness perception due to an increase in saturation, is clearly observed.

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1967Results of brightness-scaling experiments with complex stimulus fields are reported. A family of brightness functions has been computed from the data for complex stimuli such as photographic reproductions viewed with both illuminated and dark surrounds. The resulting brightness vs luminance functions are not simple power functions.

Instrument for Measuring Relative Brightness Perception
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1994Neuro-ophthalmic disorders may cause a subjective difference in the brightness perceived by each eye. We developed a unique clinical device to measure this difference. The device consists of a disk equipped with graded neutral-density filters that fits into a View-Master stereo viewer (View-Master International Group, Inc., Portland, Oregon).

The American Journal of Psychology, 1970The influence of information and instructions on brightness perception was investigated under conditions where either ratio or retinal matches were possible. Unlike most earlier studies, this one found no effect of experience: both trained and control groups showed identical ratio responses.
