Physical Asymmetries and Brightness Perception [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper considers the problem of estimating the brightness of visual stimuli. A number of physical asymmetries are seen to permit determination of brightness that is invariant to certain manipulations of the sensor responses, such as inversion. In particular, the light-dark range asymmetry is examined and is shown to result, over a certain range, in

Flexible Pressure Sensor With Co‐Optimized Sensitivity and Linearity Based on Gradient Toroidal Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor with gradient toroidal CNT/PDMS microstructures is reported. The hierarchical geometry enables sequential electrode contact, achieving a sensitivity of 256.20 kPa−1 and linear response (R2 = 0.99) over 0–1000 kPa.

In Situ Integrated Titanium Oxide Synaptic Phototransistor Enabling Multimodal Plasticity and Noise‐Robust Selective Attention

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An in situ integrated TiO2/SiOx/Al2O3 synaptic phototransistor couples ultraviolet and electrical stimuli within a scalable, CMOS‐compatible oxide stack. Multimodal plasticity, spike‐timing‐dependent learning, and bee‐inspired associative conditioning are achieved through trap‐mediated temporal dynamics.

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.
