THE INFLUENCE OF THE FILM FORMED ON THE PRATO CHEESE SURFACE DURING THE NACL AND KCL SALTING PROCESS: APPLICATION OF THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD AND NEURAL NETWORKS OF THE SELF-ORGANIZING MAP (SOM) AND MULTILAYER PERCEPTRON (MLP) TYPES

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2022
Sodium chloride is used in the cheese salting process as it promotes sensory changes and food preservation. However, in excess can cause hypertension problems, and for this reason, it has been partially replaced by potassium chloride. In the present work,

Effect of Water Aging on the Mechanical Properties of Hybrid Carbon/Aramid Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the mechanical properties of Carbon/Aramid intraply hybrid fiber‐reinforced Elium composites under 6 months of water aging. After aging, flexural strength decreases by 25.89%, tensile strength by 4.40%, and fracture toughness by 21.56%.

Selenium Biotransformations in an Engineered Aquatic Ecosystem for Bioremediation of Agricultural Wastewater via Brine Shrimp Production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An engineered aquatic ecosystem was specifically designed to bioremediate selenium (Se), occurring as oxidized inorganic selenate from hypersalinized agricultural drainage water while producing brine shrimp enriched in organic Se and omega-3 and omega-6 ...

Convective dissolution of carbon dioxide in deep saline aquifers: Insights from engineering a high-pressure porous Hele-Shaw cell [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Applied 12, 034016 (2019), 2018
We present the first experiments of dissolution-driven convection of carbon dioxide (CO$_2$) in a confined brine-saturated porous medium at high pressures. We designed a novel Hele-Shaw cell that allows for both visual and quantitative analyses, and address the effects of free-phase CO$_2$ and brine composition on convective dissolution.

Shape‐Stabilization of Phase Change Materials with Carbon‐Conscious Poly(hydroxy)Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(hydroxy)urethane (PHU) foam, derivable from carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio‐based resources, is a promising material platform for shape‐stabilizing phase change materials (PCMs). We demonstrate the encapsulation of both paraffins and calcium chloride hexahydrate in PHU foam, achieving 48 stable thermal cycles by introducing 5 wt.% barium carbonate ...

Investigation of the effect of brine composition and pH buffer on CO2 -brine sequestration

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2011
AbstractCarbon dioxide sequestration using brines has emerged as a promising option to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change due to its large storage capacity and favourable chemistries. This study aims to improve our understanding of brine composition and pH on the CO2-brine reactions. Four synthetic brines were prepared. pH stability studies

Martian Mantle Heat Flow Estimate From the Lack of Lithospheric Flexure in the South Pole of Mars: Implications for Planetary Evolution and Basal Melting

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
Heat flow measurements are important for our understanding of planetary interior composition, structure, and evolution. In the absence of direct measurement, a first‐order estimate of a planet's interior heat flow can be made by modeling the lithosphere ...
