Principles of Using Cl/Br, B/Br and Na/K Ratios to Clarify the Genesis of Natural Waters

open access: yesGeoresursy
The principles of using chlorine-bromine (Cl/ Br), boron-bromine (B/Br) and sodium-potassium (Na/K) ratios to determine the genesis of aqueous solutions are substantiated.

Hydrochemistry as a tool for interpreting brine origin and chemical equilibrium in oilfields: Zubair reservoir southern Iraq case study

open access: yesApplied Water Science, 2019
The oil reservoir brines are very common geological fluids coexisting with hydrocarbons. The chemistry of brines is a powerful tool for determining the brine evolution and its origin, constraining fluid flow at the basin and predicting reservoir scales ...

Salting kinetics and salt diffusivities in farmed Pantanal caiman muscle [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2003
The legal Pantanal caiman (Caiman crocodilus yacare) farming, in Brazil, has been stimulated and among meat preservation techniques the salting process is a relatively simple and low-cost method.

Scalable Polyelectrolyte Complex‐Based Sorbent With Hourly Sorption−Desorption Cycles for Multicyclic Atmospheric Water Harvesting in Arid Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A polyelectrolyte complex‐based sorbent is produced by scalable, environmentally benign aqueous phase inversion. Its porous, LiCl‐ and GO‐integrated architecture enables hourly adsorption−desorption cycles at low relative humidity (RH < 30%). A large‐scale prototype achieves multicyclic, solar‐driven atmospheric water harvesting of 1.37 L kg−1 day−1 ...

Improving Quantitative Analysis of Lithium in Brines Using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy with τ–Algorithm (τLIBS)

open access: yesAtoms
In this work, a quantitative analysis of Li in natural brines was carried out by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) assisted by the τ–algorithm for detailed analysis of the experimental line shapes (τLIBS).

Renewing the Exploration Approach for Mid-Enthalpy Systems: Examples from Northern England and Scotland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
After a promising start in the 1970s and 80s, the UK rather fell behind other countries in the search for viable mid-enthalpy geothermal resources.

Bioinspired Polypeptide Dendrimer‐Modified Thin‐Film Composite Membranes for Selective Lithium‐Magnesium Separation with DFT Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We fabricated a biomimetic dendrimer‐modified thin‐film nanocomposite membrane with a coordination‐assisted ion‐selective interface. pH‐responsive polypeptide sites preferentially bind Mg2+ and promote Li+ permeation, as predicted by density functional theory calculations of metal‐ligand interactions.

Saline Conversion and Ice Structures from Artificially Grown Sea Ice [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
The environment of cold regions is generally viewed as inhospitable, primarily due to application of ideal processes and techniques suitable to temperate zones. The work herein is a step toward solving two environmental problems.
