Chemically Gradient Ordered Nanodomains Enable Large Tensile Ductility in Gigapascal Lightweight Refractory High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A high‐strength lightweight refractory high‐entropy alloy achieves extraordinary ductility owing to the introduction of coherent chemically gradient ordered nanodomains (CGONs). The CGONs not only serve as effective barriers to dislocation motion (strengthening) but also significantly promote dislocation nucleation and multiplication (ductilizing) upon

Ductile-brittle transition mechanism of SiC particle-reinforced Al-MMCs under ultrasonic assisted grinding with single grain

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
High volume fraction (45 %) silicon carbide particle-reinforced Al matrix composites (SiCp/Al-MMCs) play an important role in various engineering fields due to their excellent properties, but the high hardness and brittleness of the SiC reinforcements ...

Diastereomeric Monomers Enable Anion‐Exchange Membranes With Controlled Local Polymer Backbone Flexibility and High Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stereochemistry enables control of ion‐exchange membrane properties via local backbone flexibility without altering the polymer composition. Syn‐enriched membranes show higher water uptake and improved water‐electrolysis performance, whereas anti‐enriched membranes exhibit higher hydration efficiency and improved mechanical properties.

A Sustainable Bio‐Based Epoxy Thermoset as a High‐Performance Alternative to BPA‐Based Resins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A rigid–flexible bio‐based epoxy network integrates soybean oil, lignin, and maleic anhydride to overcome the strength–toughness–sustainability trade‐off of conventional BPA epoxy. The thermoset delivers excellent performance as both a structural adhesive and a matrix for glass‐fabric composites, while enabling pH‐responsive degradation, environmental ...

Tensile elongation of unidirectional or laminated composites combining a brittle reinforcement with a ductile strain and strain-rate hardening matrix [PDF]

open access: yes
We use the long-wavelength model of Hutchinson and Neale (1977) and Ghosh (1977) to estimate the uniform tensile elongation of two-phase composites deforming quasistatically according to the equistrain rule of mixtures, in which one phase is ductile ...

Ductile B2 Intermetallics‐Driven Strength‐Ductility Synergy in Heterolaminated Multi‐Principal Element Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intrinsic phase toughening transforms a brittle B2 intermetallic into a plastically deformable, load‐bearing phase, while a heterogeneous laminated architecture suppresses strain localization and interface cracking. The synergy between ductile intermetallics and mesoscale heterogeneity establishes a general design strategy for breaking the long ...
