Multimodal Characterization of Sn‐Bi Solder Alloy Solidification Using Synchrotron X‐Ray Microtomography and Energy Dispersive Diffraction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Real‐time imaging and energy‐dispersive diffraction during solidification of Sn‐Bi alloy interconnect for electronic packaging applications are studied. Sn‐Bi solder alloys have generated significant interest in recent times due to their potential use in electronic packaging.

Tungsten-rhenium alloy thermocouples effective for high-temperature measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Tungsten-rhenium alloy thermocouples, specifically, insulated, sheathed W/W plus 26Re and W plus 5 Re/W plus 26 Re thermocouples, are effective for temperature measurement in excess of 2920 degrees C. These thermocouples have a high thermoelectric output

Minimax Iterative Dynamic Game: Application to Nonlinear Robot Control Tasks

open access: yes, 2018
Multistage decision policies provide useful control strategies in high-dimensional state spaces, particularly in complex control tasks. However, they exhibit weak performance guarantees in the presence of disturbance, model mismatch, or model ...

Additive Manufacturing of Gradient Stiffness Honeycombs Using Thermoplastic Polyurethane Composite Material Variations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
By combining porous, solid, and carbon fiber‐reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane within a single 3D printed honeycomb structure, this current work achieved precise control over spatial stiffness while ensuring strong interlayer adhesion. The findings demonstrate enhanced energy absorption and densification strain, outperforming traditional uniform ...

Effect of Annealing Temperature on Microstructure and Dry‐Sliding Behavior of Powder Bed Fusion–Laser Beam Ti6Al2Sn4Zr6Mo Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Heat treatment parameters critically affect the wear resistance of powder bed fusion–laser beam (PBF‐LB)‐produced Ti–6Al–2Sn–4Zr–6Mo alloy. This study found that optimizing annealing temperature allows to obtain a tailored microstructure, which enhances the dry‐sliding behavior by forming a stable and functional mechanically mixed layer (MML), ensuring

Dual Effect of Hydrothermal Fluid on Shale Oil Reservoir in Gulong Sag, Songliao Basin: Constrained by C-O Isotope and Geochemistry

open access: yesEnergies
Hydrothermal activity is widespread in sedimentary basins, but its dual effects (chemistry and temperature) on shale reservoirs are rarely discussed. In this research, we systematically collected 33 well core samples from Q1 to Q9 units in Gulong Sag ...

Symbol grounding and its implications for artificial intelligence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In response to Searle's well-known Chinese room argument against Strong AI (and more generally, computationalism), Harnad proposed that if the symbols manipulated by a robot were sufficiently grounded in the real world, then the robot could be said to ...

3D‐Printable Near‐Infrared‐Responsive Microscale Cantilever made of the Composite Consisting of Ceramic Particles and Graphene Flakes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A near infrared‐responsive microscale cantilever is developed using a 3D‐printable composite based on photocurable resin consisting of sepiolite and graphene flakes. The material absorbs 1064 nm light, causing shape transformation with an average displacement of 1.3 mm in 1.7 s. Displacement is measured via video recording.
