Formation of Intermetallic Sludge Phases in AlMgSi Alloys with High Concentrations of Alloying Elements: A Drawback for Increasing Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sludge phases with brittle fracture behavior form in AlMgSi alloys with high concentrations of alloying elements and negatively influence their ductility. The phase type mainly depends on the Si content and the concentration of minor alloying elements like Fe, Mn, Cr, and Mo strongly influences the number of sludge particles. The need for sustainable

Thermally Induced Gelling Systems Based on Patchy Polymeric Micelles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
A novel strategy to design thermally induced gelling systems with tunable material properties is reported. Polymeric mixed‐shell micelles displaying multiple thermosensitive patchy domains formed hydrogels by assembling into well‐entangled worm‐like network structures upon heating to body temperature. The patchy micelle design significantly affects the

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Experimental and Theoretical Confirmation of Covalent Bonding in α‐Pu

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a combination of Reverse Monte Carlo dynamic rigid body fitting to the pair distribution functional and novel density functional approaches, the existence of covalent bonding is confirmed in α‐plutonium alongside other bonding types (i.e. mixed bonding schemes).

The effects of surface finish and grain size on the strength of sintered silicon carbide [PDF]

open access: yes
The effects of surface treatment and microstructure, especially abnormal grain growth, on the strength of sintered SiC were studied. The surfaces of sintered SiC were treated with 400, 800 and 1200 grit diamond wheels.

Розкид флюенсу в зразках-свідках та його вплив на точність визначення критичної температури крихкості [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The object of the study in this paper is the investigation of the influence of the scatter fluence on the accuracy of the critical temperature brittleness. To determine this influence we analyzed the data of test results Sharpy specimens.

Atomic Size Misfit for Electrocatalytic Small Molecule Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the application and mechanisms of atomic size misfit in catalysis for small molecule activation, focusing on how structural defects and electronic properties can effectively lower the energy barriers of chemical bonds in molecules like H2O, CO2, and N2.
