Comprehensive Mass Balance of Pilot‐Scale Apple Juice Production Using Sequential Dual‐Enzyme Treatments

open access: yesJournal of Food Process Engineering, Volume 49, Issue 10, October 2026.
A component‐resolved mass balance of pilot‐scale apple juice production demonstrated that sequential cellulolytic maceration and PME‐mediated clarification synergistically increased yield to 65% with 71.7% polyphenol retention, while bound‐to‐free polyphenol fractionation confirmed enzymatic liberation of matrix‐bound phenolics during clarification—a ...

Electrochemical Performance Screening of Cu‐Based Multimetal Electrocatalysts for CO2 Reduction

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 13, Issue 17, 1 September 2026.
Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction performance for lanthanoids and similar rare‐earth elements such as Gd, Sc, Tb, Nd, Sm, and Y as components in CuAgAl catalysts was explored with respect to product selectivity. Gd‐containing catalysts showed high Faradaic efficiency for C2+ products > 60% at a current density of −400 mA cm−2.

Comparative Quality of Garden Strawberries (Fragaria × ananassa Duch. cv. Albion) Produced in Soil and Soilless Sustainable Urban Systems

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction/Materials Modern agriculture faces the challenge of balancing high crop yields with sustainable resource management and nutritional quality. Here, soil and soilless systems (hydroponics and aquaponics) for cultivating the day‐neutral cultivar ‘Albion’ of the garden strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) were compared in terms of ...

Methodological Effects on Plant–Hummingbird Networks: A Comparison of Pollen Load and Focal Observation Approaches in Colombian Andean Ecosystems

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Ecological interactions, such as plant–pollinator interactions, are fundamental to maintaining biodiversity and sustaining ecosystem functions. In tropical ecosystems, hummingbirds serve as key pollinators due to their specialized morphological traits, which facilitate plant–pollinator interactions.

Aquafaba (Chickpea Cooking Water) as a Natural Emulsifier in the Development of Plant‐Based Coffee Whitener

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, Volume 103, Issue 7, Page 729-739, July 2026.
ABSTRACT In this study, the possibility of using aquafaba powder, derived from chickpea cooking water, as a natural emulsifier in the formulation of plant‐based coffee whitener was evaluated. For this purpose, coffee whiteners, which are emulsion type products, are obtained by high‐shear mixing followed by high‐pressure homogenization of the aqueous ...

Targeted metabolomics reveals the optimal harvest time of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in an emerging high‐altitude tropical region

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 9, Page 5614-5628, July 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Climate change has driven the expansion of viticulture in high‐altitude tropical regions. The dynamics of grape ripening and its metabolic profile are influenced by climatic conditions. This study aimed to identify the optimal harvest period for Cabernet Sauvignon grapes cultivated in an emerging Brazilian high‐altitude region using
