Virtualized broadband networking and standards in IEEE and broadband forum

2014 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps), 2014
This paper introduces the over-arching concept of broadband virtualization. Standards in the arena of broadband virtualization are discussed, with an emphasis on new SDN and NFV projects in the IEEE and in the Broadband Forum. Tantalizing new prospects in this area are described in some detail: multi-tenant broadband control and management, utilizing ...

Evaluating Broadband Stimulus and the National Broadband Plan: Establishing Expectations for Broadband Rankings

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
The United States has recently reinvigorated its efforts to promote ubiquitous broadband at affordable prices for all Americans by both committing over $7.2 billion in stimulus funds and by requiring the Federal Communications Commission to issue a “National Broadband Plan.” The big policy question is how do we evaluate the success or failure of these ...

Granulated broadband networks

IEEE Communications Magazine, 1994
A new ATM platform concept can accelerate the introduction of broadband services with enhanced integration of existing narrowband services/spl minus/including POTS. In order to reduce initial costs for broadband services, an ATM-based platform must be constructed for various services.

A vision for the broadband network

Proceedings. 12th International Conference on Computer Communications and Networks (IEEE Cat. No.03EX712), 2004
Broadband networks are evolving to support applications beyond internet access sharing to encompass the distribution and use of content in the home. Consumers, having learned the benefits of mobility with their cell phones, are demanding "no new wires" and mobility in their home networks.

Broadband network restoration

IEEE Communications Magazine, 1996
In broadband networks, it is expected that at a given time there will be more data in the network than in narrowband networks, and therefore, to maintain the same quality of service, failures will need to be restored much faster. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that broadband network technology, and in particular the asynchronous transfer

Broadband photophoretic spectroscopy

Optics Letters, 1980
A means for obtaining broadband photophoretic spectra is described. The sensitivity of the technique is found in accordance with radiometric theory to increase markedly with pressure reduction below 1 atm. Noise oscillation induced by radiometric torques is contained through the use of electronic damping.

The Broadband Forum's Role in the Development of Holistic Broadband Services

IEEE Communications Standards Magazine, 2017
One thing has become very clear with the advent of virtualized solutions: the world of siloed solutions for home or business networking or mobile backhaul or fixed broadband or data centers are likely to become a thing of the past. NFV is set to become the catalyst of this transformation against a background of many concurrent technical and operational
