Shaping of Biohybrid Functional Living Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a strategy for shaping living mycelium into functional materials by directing its natural growth. Nanoparticles armor hyphae, micron‐scale particles entangle within the network, and printed hydrogel architectures steer expansion, creating defined geometries.

From Bug to Feature: Harnessing Cross‐Sensitivity for Multiparametric Luminescence Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cross‐sensitivity in luminescence sensing is reframed from a limitation into a resource for multiparametric detection. Using ruby microspheres as a model system, cross‐sensitivity is quantitatively assessed and exploited through linear discriminant analysis, enabling simultaneous, correction‐free pressure and temperature sensing with a single ...

Fundamental noise limitations to supercontinuum generation in microstructure fiber

open access: yes, 2002
Broadband noise on supercontinuum spectra generated in microstructure fiber is shown to lead to amplitude fluctuations as large as 50 % for certain input laser pulse parameters.

Clean Up Behind You ‐ Novel Patterning Approach for Solid Immersion Lenses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A focused ion beam (FIB) milling strategy enables rapid fabrication of solid immersion lenses (SILs) with smooth, debris‐free surfaces eliminating the need for post‐processing. The optimized pattern improves efficiency and surface quality. SILs containing NV centers are also investigated, confirming the technique's suitability for quantum and photonic ...

Study on Flow Control and Noise Reduction of Jet-type Centrifugal Pump based on Non-smooth Surface Structure [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
Jet-type centrifugal pumps are widely used in daily water supply systems due to their excellent self-priming capabilities; however, their complex internal flow patterns can negatively affect performance and generate high noise levels.

CAA broadband noise prediction for aeroacoustic design

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2010
AbstractThe current status of a hybrid RANS/CAA approach for the simulation of broadband sound generation is presented. The method rests on the use of steady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulation to prescribe the time-averaged motion of turbulent flow. By means of synthetic turbulence the steady one-point statistics (e.g.
