A Targeting Bonus for More Effective Agri‐Environmental Policy

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, Volume 57, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Despite significant policy interventions and conservation initiatives, incentives for the conservation of biodiversity have been criticised for being ecologically ineffective and economically inefficient. This paper examines a novel approach to improve the ecological and economic performance of such incentives.

Nonlinear Extreme‐Heat Responses to the Spatial Progression of Deforestation in the Maritime Continent

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract The Maritime Continent (MC) has undergone rapid deforestation in recent decades, altering its land‐atmosphere energy balance. Using idealized Community Earth System Model simulations, we examined heat extremes under progressively increasing deforestation extents, from localized coastal clearing to complete forest removal.

Earlier Flash Drought Onset Driven by Spring Vegetation Greening and Warming

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract The onset timing of the flash drought season (TO) critically determines whether these rapid‐intensifying events coincide with sensitive stages of vegetation growth, as droughts occurring early in the growing season can severely undermine ecosystem productivity. However, how TO has evolved under climate change remains unclear.

Enhanced CO2 Response and Aging‐Related Dynamics Drive a Greater Leaf Area Index Increase in China's Planted Forests in Comparison to Natural Forests

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract China's forests have experienced a notable increase in leaf area, driven by planted forest expansion and natural forest conservation. However, how planted and natural forests respond differently to environmental changes remains unclear. Using leaf area index (LAI) data, propensity score matching (PSM), and machine learning, we compared these ...

A dual tank precision sprayer to overcome antagonism of mixing dicamba and clethodim for control of volunteer corn in soybean

open access: yesAgricultural &Environmental Letters, Volume 11, Issue 1, June 2026.
Abstract The mixing of clethodim and dicamba in the same tank could lead to reduced grass weed control, suggesting antagonism. Recently commercialized precision dual tank sprayers can apply two herbicides simultaneously through different boom systems, which may reduce potential herbicide antagonism for effective grass weed control.
