Tenosynovitis in broilers and broiler breeder flocks

New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1978
Abstract Tenosynovitis in commercial broiler breeder flocks, characterised by severe lameness, resulted in malnutrition and eventual culling of these chickens. Histologically there was metaplasia of tendons, tendon sheaths, connective tissues and infiltration with heterophils. Although Staph. aureus was isolated from some specimens, it is probable that

Influenza in Commercial Broiler Breeders

Avian Diseases, 1992
Influenza was detected in a flock of broiler breeders during routine serological monitoring. Although there were no clinical signs, egg production may have been affected in hens on one story of a two-story breeder house. Intensive measures were taken to avoid transmission to other farms. Two months after the flock was found to be serologically positive,

Pinealoma in a Broiler Breeder

Avian Diseases, 1986
An incidental central nervous system tumor was found in a broiler breeder. The cellular mass was histologically similar to the normal pineal gland, but it was characterized by a decreased ratio of follicular/parafollicular cells, a relative increase in mitoses, a size three times greater than a normal pineal gland, and growth and expansion into ...

A cataract outbreak in broiler breeders

Avian Pathology, 1998
Varying degrees of lens cataract and iritis were found in birds of a flock of grandparent broiler breeders. Major histopathological findings included stromal lens alterations with liquefaction (phacolysis) and globule formation, and a lymphocytic-plasmocytic anterior uveitis.

Evaluation of Biosecurity in Broiler Breeders

Avian Diseases, 1987
The economic impact of management practices designed to limit the introduction of disease into a parent broiler breeder flock (biosecurity) was evaluated using benefit-cost analysis. Equations were developed to quantify the losses resulting from infection with one of four alternative categories of disease representing incremental levels of ...

Infectious tenosynovitis in broilers and broiler breeders in Egypt

Veterinary Research Communications, 1984
Two infectious tenosynovitis-producing viruses were isolated from tendon sheaths and synovial fluids of 59 broilers and 15 broiler breeders obtained from different flocks in Egypt during June to October 1983. The viruses grew well on the chorioallantoic membrane of developing chicken embryos, produced small localized white pock lesions with oedematous ...

Acute pectoral myopathy in broiler breeders

Avian Pathology, 1982
An acute myopathy is described which principally affects the superficial pectoral muscle (Musculus pectoralis) of broiler breeders between 12 and 20 weeks of age. The disease is sporadic and associated with rapid death. The lesion is characterised histologically by a severe my o degeneration but with little or no cellular response. The cause is unknown.

Feeding Broiler Breeders

2002
The feeding and management of table-egg (white and brown shell) breeding birds was not included in this chapter because of the key management differences associated with feeding these breeders as opposed to the methods used for broiler breeders. The feeding of modern table-egg breeders does not require controlled feeding because, in general, the body ...

Pharmacokinetics of levamisole in broiler breeder chickens

Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2006
The pharmacokinetics of levamisole was studied in 20 broiler breeder chickens (chickens that give eggs to breed broilers). A single dose of levamisole (40 mg/kg) was administered orally or intravenously to chickens before the onset of egg production, prelay (age = 22 weeks), and repeated at the peak of egg production (age = 32 weeks).

Mycoplasma iowaeinfection in broiler breeders

Avian Pathology, 1991
Experimental infection of broiler breeder chickens at one day of age with two strains of Mycoplasma iowae resulted in stunting and poor feathering accompanied, in some cases, by rupture of the digital flexor tendon, tenosynovitis, tendon fibrosis and arthritis.
