Diagnosis, Pathology, and Etiology of Tenosynovitis in Broilers and Broiler Breeders
Avian Diseases, 1972Tenosynovitis virus isolated from the leg tendons of broilerbreeder replacement chickens produced enlarged, firm, and partially nonfunctional leg tendons in broiler chicks, following footpad (FP), intramuscular (IM), and intraperitoneal (IP) inoculation.

The effect of various factors on the incidence of leg abnormalities, with particular reference to twisted leg, in broilers was studied. The incidence of twisted legs was influenced by strain and for males was twice that for females. There was also a higher incidence in cages than on litter with the type of cage floor having an effect: broilers reared ...

Pasteurella multocida, the etiologic agent of fowl cholera, was isolated from six broiler flocks in Georgia during summer 1988. The flocks ranged in age from 20 to 46 days, represented four companies, and spanned a distance of 50 miles. Increased mortality and lameness were the clinical signs present in all affected flocks. Bacterial isolation and agar

Pinealoma in a Broiler Breeder
Avian Diseases, 1986An incidental central nervous system tumor was found in a broiler breeder. The cellular mass was histologically similar to the normal pineal gland, but it was characterized by a decreased ratio of follicular/parafollicular cells, a relative increase in mitoses, a size three times greater than a normal pineal gland, and growth and expansion into ...

Transmissible proventriculitis in broilers
Avian Pathology, 2007This article reviews transmissible proventriculitis in poultry from 1971 to 2006. The disease is important in commercial broilers worldwide, resulting in reduced profits. The aetiology of this disease is unknown and different clinical presentations often result in a confused or complicated diagnosis.

Observations on swollen head syndrome in broiler and broiler breeder chickens
Veterinary Record, 1989Chickens on 14 broiler breeder farms were examined at various times throughout their laying cycle. Antibodies to the turkey rhinotracheitis virus were common although they were not always accompanied by clinical signs of the swollen head syndrome. Ninety-nine broiler flocks were tested of which only 20 were serologically positive to the virus.

SUMMARY A survey was made to determine the incidence and types of salmonellae in broilers and broiler breeders received by the Lasswade Laboratory for post-mortem examination from 22 counties in Scotland. Eleven serotypes, of which typhimurium was the predominant, were isolated from 93 birds from a total of 7725 over a two-year period.

SUMMARY A total of 3750 broiler chicks were reared on the floor in two experiments replicated 8-12 times. Rate of growth, feed efficiency, mortality, and coccidial lesions were investigated comparing two anticoccidial agents and a negative control group. Lesion scores (severity of 1-4) were determined on sacrificed chicks at 3/2 and 7 weeks of age.

1. Morphological development of the heart in fast-growing, meat-type fowl of both sexes was studied. 2. In 4 experiments, fowl were weighed, killed and hearts were dissected at 0, 20, 34, and 48th d of age. Heart weight (HW), length (HL), diameter (HD), and thickness of the right ventricular wall (RVW) and left ventricular wall (LVW) were determined. 3.
