“Phacoemulsification tip fracture and how to manage it.”
Purpose: To describe a rare complication of phacoemulsification (Phaco) cataract extraction. Observations: A phaco tip fracture occurred during the sculpting of the nucleus in a cataract extraction surgery of a 60-year-old woman.

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Chiral separation of chloroalkanes with the chromatographic column onboard Martian rovers
Computer image of the Rosalind Franklin Rover of ESA's ExoMars mission. ExoMars is scheduled to land on planet Mars in Oxia Planum in 2029. This area represents an interesting spot to look for biosignatures. Investigations of ExoMars include measurement on molecular chirality. We show that chiral chloroalkanes, that have been identified on Mars, can be

Robot-Assisted Removal of a Broken Scalpel Blade following Discectomy
The risk of a broken scalpel blade during discectomy is considered extremely rare, while no guidelines exist regarding this complication. We report a case of a robotic broken blade removal following lumbar discectomy.

To investigate the occurrence of microcracks in the canals containing broken instruments in the middle and apical thirds after instrumentation with various systems.One-hundred and fifty mature mandibular premolars with single straight canal were collected and stored in distilled water. Samples were checked out from any preexisting deformation or cracks,

Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...
