Abstract The essential oil obtained of the fruits from Bromelia balansae (Bromeliaceae) collected in the Mato Grosso do Sul was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-five components were identified in the fruit oil. The major constituents in the fruit oil were cryptomeridiol (12.0%), spathulenol (7.5%) and globulol (7.2%).

Antifungal activity of fruit pulp extract from Bromelia pinguin
Fitoterapia, 2002The methanol extract of the fruit pulp of Bromelia pinguin was evaluated for its antifungal activity. The extract showed a significant activity against some Trichophyton strains, although Candida strains were generally insensitive.
