Acute viral bronchiolitis in infancy: Epidemiology and management

Lung, 1990
Acute bronchiolitis due to viral agents (RSV, parainfluenza, influenza, adenovirus) is a relatively frequent disease of infancy. Seasonal epidemic pattern have been recognized, and nosocomial infections in pediatric wards occur. Until age 2 years most children have experienced some form of airway disease attributable to RSV.

The Use of Procalcitonin for Prediction of Pulmonary Bacterial Coinfection in Children With Respiratory Failure Associated With Viral Bronchiolitis

La Clinica pediatrica, 2018
Objectives. Viral bronchiolitis is a frequent cause of pediatric hospitalization and respiratory failure. Procalcitonin (PCT) is a biomarker used to identify serious bacterial infection and can distinguish bacterial and viral infections.

Management of Acute Viral Bronchiolitis in Infancy

Pediatrics, 1965
In the recent article by Drs. Wright and Beem, "Acute Viral Bronchiolitis in Infancy" (Pediatrics, 35:334), they state that tracheotomy should be condemned in the therapy of this illness. Although I agree with most of their points, I must take issue with this particular statement.
