Comparison of cytokine mRNA expression in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of horses with inflammatory airway disease and bronchoalveolar lavage mastocytosis or neutrophilia using REST software analysis.

Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 2012
OBJECTIVES The pathophysiology of inflammatory airway disease (IAD) is unknown, but in some cases involves the accumulation of mast cells, neutrophils, or both in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF).

Hypoxia during bronchoalveolar lavage

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine, 1990
AbstractThe aim of this study was to determine the degree and duration of hypoxaemia during bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and to examine the effect of supplemental oxygen on this response. Transcutaneous oxygen tension (PO2) was recorded continuously in 22 patients having bronchoscopy alone (Group 1), and during BAL in patients with a variety of ...

Bronchoalveolar lavage of newborn infants

Pediatric Pulmonology, 1999
NB-BAL is a very useful technique for investigating respiratory disorders of newborn infants. It is safe and easy to perform even in the sickest infants receiving mechanical ventilation. Information about the cellular and molecular processes that may be important in the pathogenesis of neonatal respiratory disorders may be obtained especially since ...

Bronchoalveolar lavage in lung transplantation

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1991
One of the dilemmas in the management of lung allotransplant recipients is our inability to precisely determine the cause of graft dysfunction. Differentiating between lung allograft infection, rejection, atelectasis, or ischemic injury remains a difficult task.

Bronchoalveolar Lavage-induced Pneumothorax

Chest, 1988
Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) has not been associated with the complication of pneumothorax. Candidates for this procedure are predisposed to develop pneumothorax due to underlying infectious interstitial emphysema. This risk factor is increased by the hyperbaric consequences of lavage and also by the cough induced by bronchoscopic examination.
