Computed tomography of the chest revealed a cystic, polypoid lesion protruding inside the trachea, extending to the subcarina. The patient underwent a resection of the cyst, which was found to penetrate the wall of the trachea.

Bronchogenic cyst of the shoulder
Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Hand Surgery, 2004An 8-month-old girl presented with a painless mass on her left shoulder that was noticed by her mother. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a well-defined subcutaneous cystic mass. The excised cyst was lined with ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium with occasional goblet cells and diagnosed as a bronchogenic cyst.

The diagnosis was antenatal in 4 cases.

The continuity of its epithelial lining with the epidermis and its appendages is stressed and the consequences of this relationship for current theories about the pathogenesis of cutaneous ciliated cysts are discussed.

It is believed that an accurate diagnosis of these lesions can be made from careful study of their features as seen in the routine radiographs of the chest.

This is a rare congenital lesion that typically appears as a pinpoint opening over the sternum that periodically drains small amounts of mucinous material.
