An anatomical investigation of alkaptonuria: Novel insights into ochronosis of cartilage and bone

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Examination of an alkaptonuria body highlights the susceptibility of all cartilage types and associated perichondrium to ochronotic pigmentation and the heterogeneity of ochronotic pigment distribution both within and between tissues. In joints, calcified cartilage pigments before non‐calcified cartilage.

Pediatric Endotracheal Tube Cuff Management at Altitude: Implications for Aeromedical Retrieval and Other Austere Environments

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Children are sometimes transported via fixed or rotary wing aircraft for medical care. If they are intubated with a cuffed endotracheal tube (ETT), changes in environmental pressure during transport can alter cuff pressure. Cuff management in this setting varies widely by region and by organization. In this historical

Aspergillus After Lung Transplantation: Prophylaxis, Risk Factors, and the Impact on Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
Out of 274 lung transplant (LTx) patients, 89 (32%) developed invasive aspergillosis IA. Factors associated with IA were mycophenolate mofetil use, airway stenosis, Aspergillus cultured pre‐LTx, chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD), and acute rejection. The role of nebulized amphotericin B and statins for prevention of IA remains unclear. ABSTRACT
