Conspecific Brood Parasitism by the Dickcissel
The Wilson Journal of Ornithology, 2010Abstract I report the first observation of conspecific brood parasitism in the Dickcissel (Spiza americana). I monitored 302 nests during a study of the interactions between parasitic Brown-headed Cowbirds (Molothrus ater) and Dickcissels. This and a possible second case of conspecific brood parasitism may have resulted from females laying in nests ...

The evolution of brood parasitism in cuckoos
2005Abstract Although a cuckoo nestling destroys the host eggs and nestlings, the host parents often do not dis criminate against a cuckoo egg and they incubate it with their own eggs. The hosts may lack the genetic variation that would allow evolutionary selection to favor action against cuckoos (Rothstein 1990).
