A BROWN DWARF CENSUS FROM THE SIMP SURVEY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We have conducted a near-infrared (NIR) proper motion survey, the Sondage Infrarouge de Mouvement Propre, in order to discover field ultracool dwarfs (UCD) in the solar neighborhood.

Metal-Depleted Brown Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This chapter reviews our current knowledge of metal-poor ultracool dwarfs with spectral types later than M7. The current census of M, L, and T subdwarfs is explored. The main colour trends of subdwarfs from the optical to the mid-infrared are described and their spectral features presented, which led to a preliminary and tentative spectral ...

Quantifying golf course water use efficiency using three water balance models of varying complexity

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Three water balance models were used to quantify water use efficiency on 71 golf courses in the United States. The golf courses were separated into five geographic regions. Methods The United States Golf Association (USGA), Tipping‐Bucket (TB), and Agro‐IBIS (AG) water balance models were used to estimate golf course water ...

A possible dividing line between massive planets and brown-dwarf companions

open access: yes, 2010
Brown dwarfs are intermediate objects between planets and stars. The lower end of the brown-dwarf mass range overlaps with the one of massive planets and therefore the distinction between planets and brown-dwarf companions may require to trace the ...

FINGERING CONVECTION AND CLOUDLESS MODELS FOR COOL BROWN DWARF ATMOSPHERES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This work aims to improve the current understanding of the atmospheres of brown dwarfs, especially cold ones with spectral types T and Y, whose modeling is a current challenge.

Menstruation myths scale: A scale development study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to develop a scale of menstruation myths. Methods The current research was conducted using a methodologic approach with a sample of 330 women who met the inclusion criteria. The scope, structural validity, and internal consistency of the scale were tested.

Transiting exoplanets from the CoRoT space mission XXVIII. CoRoT-33b, an object in the brown dwarf desert with 2:3 commensurability with its host star [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We report the detection of a rare transiting brown dwarf with a mass of 59 M_Jup and radius of 1.1 R_Jup around the metal-rich, [Fe/H] = +0.44, G9V star CoRoT-33. The orbit is eccentric (e = 0.07) with a period of 5.82 d.

A Middle and Late Devensian sequence from the northern part of Kents Cavern (Devon, UK)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract 1920s/30s excavation of a Middle Devensian sequence in the northern part of Kents Cavern recovered important Late Middle and Early Upper Palaeolithic archaeological material, including Britain's oldest known Homo sapiens remains. Questions remain about this material, including how it came to be in the cave.

Spectral classification of Pleiades brown dwarf candidates

open access: yes, 2011
We report on the results of the spectroscopy of 10 objects previously classified as brown dwarf candidates via RIJHK colors by Eisenbeiss et al. (2009), who performed deep imaging observations on a 0.4 sq.deg. field at the edge of the Pleiades.

CHARACTERIZING THE BROWN DWARF FORMATION CHANNELS FROM THE INITIAL MASS FUNCTION AND BINARY-STAR DYNAMICS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The stellar initial mass function (IMF) is a key property of stellar populations. There is growing evidence that the classical star-formation mechanism by the direct cloud fragmentation process has difficulties reproducing the observed abundance and ...
