Brown Tumor and Secondary Hyperparathyroidism
New England Journal of Medicine, 1963SECONDARY hyperparathyroidism associated with chronic renal disease may simulate primary hyper-parathyroidism with secondary renal impairment in virtually every particular. An exception is the brown tumor, a relatively rare lesion, which has been considered to be almost specific for primary hyperpara-thyroidism and which to our knowledge has not ...

Hibernoma is the term which has been given to a very rare human neoplasm of brown fat. Brown fat is a little understood tissue which has been found in many different animals, including man. 1 It is most highly developed in hibernating animals and for a long time was thought to play an important role during the state of hibernation; hence, the name ...

BROWN tumor arising in the retroorbital region has not, to our knowledge, been previously reported. We report the case of a woman with chronic renal failure and a rapidly progressive proptosis with loss of visual acuity secondary to orbital brown tumor. Report of a Case A 24-year-old woman receiving long-term hemodialysis, with a four-year history of

To the Editor.— A recent article entitled "Brown Tumor of the Orbit" by Holzer et al (238:1758,1977) was indeed interesting reading. We have observed a similar phenomenon in a 10-year-old boy who had unilateral exophthalmos and whose condition was initially diagnosed elsewhere as a malignant giant cell tumor of the orbit.

Brown tumour is one of the forms in which fibrous-cystic osteitis, which represents the terminal stage of the bone remodelling processes during primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism, is manifested. For years brown tumour was regarded as a typical lesion of primary hyperparathyroidism, but cases of brown tumours in patients with hyperparathyroidism ...

Brown Tumor of the Maxilla in Secondary Hyperparathyroidism
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1974To our knowledge, this is the second case of brown tumor of the maxilla to be reported in a patient with secondary hyperparathyroidism. This diagnosis is clinical as well as histologic since this tumor is histologically indistinguishable from giant cell reparative granuloma, a lesion that occurs commonly in the maxilla.

Osteitis fibrosa (brown tumor) of the maxilla
The Laryngoscope, 1974AbstractPatients who present to the regional specialist with localized manifestations of systemic disease provide especially interesting diagnostic problems. We present a patient who was seen initially for facial swelling, thought to be caused by carcinoma of the antrum; however, tissue for biopsy was compatible with osteitis fibrosa, giant cell ...

Abstract:Brown tumor is rarely seen today, probably because routine serum chemical tests identify patients with primary hyperparathyroidism before this skeletal complication develops. It has the appearance of a well-circumscribed expansible lytic lesion of the bone and is difficult to ...

“Brown Tumor” of Hyperparathyroidism
2015Localized destructive cyst-like areas in the skeleton, due to osteoclast resorption, in the general frame of primary, secondary, or tertiary hyperparathyroidism. It is more frequent in females and has the highest incidence between third and sixth decades. It is most common in tubular bones of the extremities and maxillary bones. The lesions may involve
