Identification of Brucella by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Fast and reliable identification from agar plates and blood cultures. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND: MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS) is a reliable method for bacteria identification. Some databases used for this purpose lack reference profiles for Brucella species, which is still an important pathogen in wide areas around the world.

A Case of Identity Confirmation of Brucella abortus S99 by Phage Typing and PCR Methods [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Razi Institute, 2019
Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection that is associated with fever in humans and abortion in animals. The agent of this disease is a facultative intracellular gram-negative coccobacillus called Brucella. There are six classic species, including B. abortus,

Brucella microti and Rodent-Borne Brucellosis: A Neglected Public Health Threat. [PDF]

open access: yesZoonoses Public Health
ABSTRACT Brucellosis is one of the most important zoonoses worldwide, primarily affecting livestock but also posing a serious threat to public health. The major Brucella species are known to cause a feverish disease in humans with various clinical signs.

Brucella ceti and brucellosis in cetaceans

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2012
Since the first case of brucellosis detected in a dolphin aborted fetus, an increasing number of Brucella ceti isolates has been reported in members of the two suborders of cetaceans: Mysticeti and Odontoceti. Serological surveys have shown that cetacean

The seminal plasma microbiome of men with testicular germ cell tumours described by small RNA sequencing

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 756-769, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Background It has been estimated that microorganisms are involved in the pathogenesis of approximately 20% of all cancers. Testicular germ cell tumours (TGCTs) are the most common type of malignancy in young men and arise from the precursor cell, germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNIS).

Immunization with a combination of recombinant Brucella abortus proteins induces T helper immune response and confers protection against wild‐type challenge in BALB/c mice

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 15, Issue 6, Page 1811-1823, June 2022., 2022
In this report, we described the production of a combination of four different immunogenic antigens rL7/L12, rOMP22, rOMP25 and rOMP31 as single (SSV) and combined subunit vaccines (CSV) and evaluated their immunogenicity in a murine model. Moreover, CSV led to markedly enhanced humoral and cellular immune responses.

Characterisation of Brucella species and biovars in South Africa between 2008 and 2018 using laboratory diagnostic data

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 1245-1253, July 2021., 2021
Brucellosis is an infectious zoonotic bacterial disease of humans and other animals. In the Republic of South Africa (RSA), animal brucellosis is widespread and the current available data on the prevalence of this disease rely solely on serological testing. The aim of this study was to conduct a retrospective laboratory‐based survey on Brucella species

The European Union One Health 2019 Zoonoses Report

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 19, Issue 2, February 2021., 2021
Abstract This report of the EFSA and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control presents the results of zoonoses monitoring activities carried out in 2019 in 36 European countries (28 Member States (MS) and eight non‐MS). The first and second most reported zoonoses in humans were campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis, respectively.
