Steenrod operations via higher Bruhat orders
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to establish a correspondence between the higher Bruhat orders of Yu. I. Manin and V. Schechtman, and the cup‐ coproducts defining Steenrod squares in cohomology. To any element of the higher Bruhat orders, we associate a coproduct, recovering Steenrod's original ones from extremal elements in these orders. Defining

An explicit derivation of the Mobius function for Bruhat order
We give an explicit nonrecursive complete matching for the Hasse diagram of the strong Bruhat order of any interval in any Coxeter group. This yields a new derivation of the Mobius function, recovering a classical result due to Verma.Comment: 9 pages ...

Boolean elements in the Bruhat order
We show that $w\in W$ is boolean if and only if it avoids a set of Billey-Postnikov patterns, which we describe explicitly. Our proof is based on an analysis of inversion sets, and it is in large part type-uniform. We also introduce the notion of linear pattern avoidance, and show that boolean elements are characterized by avoiding just the $3$ linear ...

On some geometric aspects of Bruhat orderings. I. A finer decomposition of Bruhat cells
This paper deals with a refinement of the Bruhat cell decomposition for the generalized flag manifold \(G/B\) of a semisimple algebraic group \(G\). It is obtained by intersecting a given Bruhat cell with all cells of the dual decomposition provided by the orbits of the opposite Borel subgroup \(B_-\) on \(G/B\).
