Dicalcium phosphate cements: Brushite and monetite
Acta Biomaterialia, 2012Dicalcium phosphate cements were developed two decades ago and ever since there has been a substantial growth in research into improving their properties in order to satisfy the requirements needed for several clinical applications. The present paper presents an overview of the rapidly expanding research field of the two main dicalcium phosphate ...

Mechanical characterization of brushite and hydroxyapatite cements
Biomaterials, 2001Compression, tension and torsion tests were designed and completed successfully on a brushite and a precipitated hydroxyapatite cement in moist condition. Elastic and strength properties were measured for these three loading cases. For each cement, the full set of strength data was fitted to an isotropic Tsai-Wu criterion and the associated ...

In vitro ageing of brushite calcium phosphate cement
Biomaterials, 2003In vivo studies investigating the use of brushite cements have demonstrated mixed results with one or more of dissolution, hydrolysis, fragmentation and long term stability being demonstrated. It has been suggested that sample volume, implant location, and species can affect in vivo behaviour.

Biologically mediated resorption of brushite cement in vitro
Biomaterials, 2006A new calcium phosphate cement is reported, which sets to form a matrix consisting of brushite, dicalcium pyrophosphate dihydrate and an amorphous phase following the mixture of beta-tricalcium phosphate with an aqueous pyrophosphoric acid solution.

Proton mobilities in brushite and brushite/polymer composites
Solid State Ionics, 1997Abstract This study reports various analyses of the proton activity in brushite CaHPO4·2H2O and monetite CaHPO4 considered as potential solid electrolytes in mineral/polymer composites. Volta battery devices are first used to control the migration paths of protonic species through phosphate pellets or brushite/polymer composites.

Magnesium substitution in brushite cements
Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2013The use of magnesium-doped ceramics has been described to modify brushite cements and improve their biological behavior. However, few studies have analyzed the efficiency of this approach to induce magnesium substitution in brushite crystals. Mg-doped ceramics composed of Mg-substituted β-TCP, stanfieldite and/or farringtonite were reacted with primary

Thermal reactions of brushite cements
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2007AbstractThe thermal reactions of a brushite cement made of β‐tricalcium phosphate (β‐TCP), monocalcium phosphate monohydrate (MCPM), and an aqueous solution were followed in situ with an isothermal calorimeter at 37°C. The investigated parameters were the β‐TCP/MCPM weight ratio, the liquid‐to‐powder ratio, the synthesis route and milling duration of ...

Clinical Implications of Brushite Calculi
Journal of Urology, 1991The clinical history of 30 patients with a total of 46 proved brushite urinary calculi was reviewed. The patients were active metabolically with 87% having a history of multiple calculi. Of the brushite stones 61% appeared hyperdense on x-ray but they had no consistent shape.

Dual-setting brushite–silica gel cements
Acta Biomaterialia, 2015The current study describes a dual-mechanism-setting cement that combines a brushite-forming cement paste with a second inorganic silica-based precursor. Materials were obtained by pre-hydrolyzing tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) under acidic conditions following the addition of a calcium phosphate cement (CPC) powder mixed of β-tricalcium phosphate and

Experimental study of brushite precipitation
Journal of Crystal Growth, 2004Abstract A systematic approach was developed for the synthesis of orthophosphates in the laboratory. A set of experiments was designed to investigate the influence of initial calcium and phosphorus concentration on the precipitated phase, nucleation pH and product size distribution at 25°C. Another goal was to characterize the precipitated phase. The
