Brushless DC (BLDC) motors, also called permanent magnet synchronous motors, are used in direct-drive applications mainly due to their large torque producing capability. Compared to conventional DC motors, they have no brushes or mechanical commutators, which eliminates the problems due to mechanical wear of the moving parts [68, 74].

Perfect field oriented brushless DC motor

No.01CH37262), 2001The field oriented controlled brushless DC (BLDC) motor resembles the dynamic characteristics of a fully compensated DC motor. The torque developed from such drives is directly proportional to the armature current and hence a super dynamic performance is achieved. This paper presents a new and simple technique of field orientation in BLDC motor drives.
