The authors design a variable reluctance motor to perform the rotation of clawed-pole rotors. Starting from this singular problem and encouraged by the good practical results they obtained, they have investigated the structure in terms of motor performances for application in variable speed drives.

Brushless variable-speed induction motors
Proceedings of the IEE Part A: Power Engineering, 1957The first part of the paper describes experiments performed on a spherical machine. These experiments show that speed ranges up to 5.5:1 can be obtained, and that the speed range obtained depends markedly on the ratio of pole width to pole pitch. They also show that the losses in the machine cannot be accounted for by conventional induction-motor ...

Brushless permanent-magnet motor drives
Power Engineering Journal, 1988The brushless PM DC motor is extremely common in a wide variety of low-power applications such as computers and office machinery. As magnetic properties improve and control electronics become more sophisticated, the brushless PM motor expands its application potential to higher power levels.

AC Commutatorliess and Brushless Motor
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1972We have developed a type of ac commutatorless motor which is a combination of a motor and thyristor controller. The rotor of the motor has neither a commutator, slip rings nor brushes. The motor can therefore be designed rugged for a high speed control.

Brushless DC motor positioning system
Southcon/96 Conference Record, 2002The purpose of this paper is to describe a brushless DC motor control circuit based on the MC68332 microcontroller and its unique time processing unit or TPU. This timer has preprogrammed algorithms that are developed specifically for the brushless DC motor.

Brushless DC Motor Drives (BLDC)
2011This chapter deals with properties and control of brushless DC motors drives with a permanent magnet excitation (BLDC, PMDC). In the first part characteristics of contemporary permanent magnets (PM) that are used in electric motors are presented along with the simplified ways of their modeling.
