Bryophytes are an intrinsic part of various vegetation types in Central European landscapes. The Czech bryoflora is made up of 866 species (207 liverworts, 655 mosses and 4 hornworts) of which 59 are considered to be extinct or have vanished. The great majority are native species, while only four species are of demonstrably alien origin.
