Unmanaged forest swamps benefit saproxylic and soil‐inhabiting crane fly communities

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Species richness of both saproxylic and soil‐inhabiting crane flies was consistently higher in unmanaged forests across all habitat types. Soil‐inhabiting species thrived in swamps and ditches, while saproxylic richness was linked to low light and high soil moisture, independent of habitat type.

Bryophytes and their distribution in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The bryophytes (mosses, liverworts and hornworts) that occur in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales (latitude 33˚–34˚ S, longitude 151˚–151˚40’ E) are listed and information is provided on their distribution in the region.

Species–area relationships in continuous vegetation : evidence from Palaearctic grasslands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aim: Species-area relationships (SARs) are fundamental scaling laws in ecology although their shape is still disputed. At larger areas power laws best represent SARs.

RNAi reveals a unique set of kinesins mediating chloroplast motility in the giant cytoplasm of Bryopsis (Ulvophyceae), a coenocytic green alga

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful tool for protein knockdown and is widely used in model animals and plants. Here, we implemented RNAi in Bryopsis, a green feather alga that develops a coenocytic thallus >10 cm in length without cytokinesis.

In vitro Screening of Bryophytes for Antimicrobial Activity

open access: yesJournal of Medicinal Plants, 2008
Background: Bryophytes, the previous land plants posses medicinally important bioactive compounds but with little information. Traditionally the bryophytes plants posses some bioactive components and therefore used throughout the world as drugs and ...

Ecology and conservation of bryophytes and lichens on Fagus sylvatica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Environmental factors related to the occurrence of epiphytic bryophytes and lichens were examined in beech (Fagus sylvatica) forests in the Province of Halland, Sweden.

Transfer cells in Horneophyton lignieri illuminate the origin of vascular tissues in land plants

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Recent fossil discoveries and advances in plant phylogeny have renewed debate about the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of land plants and the evolution of its fundamental organs and tissues. We re‐investigate the vascular system of Horneophyton lignieri, an exceptionally preserved Rhynie Chert fossil central to understanding early plant ...

Tropical component of the moss Flora of China [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
In many ways, it is presumptuous for me to speak on the mosses of the tropical regions of China. Many consider the knowledge about the taxonomy, ecology, and geography of tropical bryophytes inadequate (Pócs 1982; Schuster 1983; Richards 1984), and this ...

Species diversity of macrofungi on fallows in the buffer zones of the landscape parks in Łódzkie province [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study presents the species structure of macrofungi in different plant communities formed on fallows as a result of secondary succession. The mycological observations were carried out in 2012 and 2013 in the buffer zones of all landscape parks in the

B‐GATA factors are required for nitrogen‐responsive growth in Physcomitrium patens and Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary We hypothesized that B‐GATA family transcription factors have important roles in growth regulation in moss. We analyzed B‐GATA family transcription factor mutants from Physcomitrium patens and Arabidopsis thaliana to assess growth, gene expression, and cytokinin‐related processes under varying nitrogen conditions.
