BTEX biodegradation in contaminated groundwater using a novel strain (Pseudomonas sp. BTEX-30)
International Biodeterioration and Biodegradation, 2017Abstract BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes) compounds are the most frequently encountered subsurface contaminants among the various petroleum hydrocarbons. In this study, a new strain, able to degrade BTEX compounds, was isolated from oil contaminated groundwater. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the isolated strain was most closely

Alleviation of metal inhibition on BTEX degradation using PVA-immobilized degrader (Mycobacterium sp. CHXY119) was investigated. When BTEX of 29 mg L(-1) [B:T:E:X = 1:1:1:1 (mg)] was used, more than 99 % of BTEX was simultaneously degraded by the free cells within 170 h. In contrast, BTEX of 114-172 mg L(-1) seriously inhibited degradation.

Biofiltration for BTEX Removal
Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology, 2012Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) biofiltration is an increasingly popular research area because it offers a relatively cheap solution to limit emissions of these toxic agents to the atmosphere. The authors review different technological options for biofiltration, and discuss the main influencing factors including type of packing ...

BTEX decomposition by ozone in gaseous phase
Journal of Environmental Management, 2012Environment management is turning its efforts to control the air pollution. Nowadays, gas phase contaminants coming from different sources are becoming into the main cause of serious human illness. Particularly, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) are getting more and more attention from the scientific community due the high level of ...

Formulation of microbial cocktails for BTEX biodegradation
Biodegradation, 2014BTEX biodegradation by a mixed community of micro-organisms offers a promising approach in terms of cost-effectiveness and elimination of secondary pollution. Two bacterial strains, Pseudomonas putida F1 and Pseudomonas stutzeri OX1 were chosen to formulate synthetic consortia based on their ability to biodegrade the mono-aromatic compounds.

Biodegradation of gasoline and BTEX in a microaerophilic biobarrier
Biodegradation, 1999Continuous bioremediation of gasoline-contaminated water in a packed-bed biobarrier system under oxygen-limited conditions is discussed. This study was part of an extensive effort to develop an alternative technology for the in situ bioremediation of hydrocarbons where there is a limited supply of oxygen. Protruded stainless steel pieces and granulated

Microfluidic Device for Airborne BTEX Detection
Analytical Chemistry, 2001We fabricated a microfluidic device for the optical detection of airborne benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX). The device consists of concentration and detection cells formed of 3 cm x 1 cm Pyrex plates. The concentration cell is composed of an adsorbent to concentrate the BTEX gases and a thin-film heater todesorb the concentrated gases ...
