Formulation of microbial cocktails for BTEX biodegradation

Biodegradation, 2014
BTEX biodegradation by a mixed community of micro-organisms offers a promising approach in terms of cost-effectiveness and elimination of secondary pollution. Two bacterial strains, Pseudomonas putida F1 and Pseudomonas stutzeri OX1 were chosen to formulate synthetic consortia based on their ability to biodegrade the mono-aromatic compounds.

Quantitative structure–polarization relationships (QSPR) study of BTEX tracers for the formation of antibody–BTEX–EDF complex

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2004
The multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis and back propagation neural networks (NN) were performed to examine the quantitative structure-polarization relationships (QSPR) for the formation of antibody-BTEX-EDF complex. Five descriptors out of 18 ones were selected for both MLR and NN, respectively, and the selected descriptors in MLR were the same ...

Phytoremediation of BTEX by Plants

2014
The use of plants to treat BTEX has been widely studied. Plants can uptake and transform these compounds with cytochrome P450 monooxygenase and dioxygenase enzymes. These enzymes degrade BTEX to low-molecular-weight molecules such as organic acid and amino acids.

Characterization of BTEX in Malaysian petrol

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2018
Abstract Current Malaysian legislation comply to EURO 2 grade with maximum of 5% benzene content by volume in petrol and no limit to the aromatic hydrocarbons content that includes toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene until 2027. Benzene, Toluene, Xylene and Ethylbenzene (BTEX) which present in petrol is simultaneously released to the environment in the

Laboratory Assessment of BTEX Soil Flushing

Environmental Science & Technology, 1996
Soil cores from the unsaturated zone of a waste site contaminated with benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) were flushed with water under conditions representative of those proposed for site remediation. With a laboratory column dispersivity of 1 cm, kinetic modeling of the breakthrough curves gave desorption rate constants of 0.01−0.1 h ...

Anoxic biodegradation of BTEX in a biotrickling filter

Science of The Total Environment, 2017
Emissions of BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene) from the petrochemical industry are characterized by a low pollutants concentration and the absence of oxygen. Biodegradation of these pollutants using nitrate as the electron acceptor is of key interest to reuse the residual gas for inertization purposes.

Sectoral Analysis of BTEX Exposure Data

2022

BTEX catabolism interactions in a toluene-acclimatized biofilter

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2001
BTEX substrate interactions for a toluene-acclimatized biofilter consortium were investigated. Benzene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene removal efficiencies were determined at a loading rate of 18.07 g m(-3) h(-1) and retention times of 0.5-3.0 min.
