THE HORN-CORE OF HEMIBOS GALERIANUS FROM PONTE MILVIO, ROME (ITALY)

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2007
Anatomical reinterpretation of a horn-core from the Ponte Milvio site, previously ascribed to Bubalus murrensis, suggests that it belongs to the species Hemibos galerianus, originally described from the type locality of the Galerian Land Mammal Age (LMA).

Influence of space allowance on the welfare of weaned buffalo (Bubalus Bubalis) calves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Twenty weaned female buffalo calves were used to evaluate the effect of space allowance in relation to their body surface area on a range of behavioural and physiological parameters. Body surface area in m2 was calculated as 0.12 body weight0.60.

Achieving conservation through cattle ranching: The case of the Brazilian Pantanal

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2025.
Cattle ranching in the Pantanal should be part of the conservation agenda and we show the pathways to it. Abstract Cattle ranching in the ~140,000 km2 Brazilian Pantanal is considered one of the most important cases of sustainable use of natural resources in the global south. The region has had a successful history of balancing environmental protection

Housing system and welfare of buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Twenty-eight buffalo cows were used to evaluate the effect of housing system on a range of behavioural and physiological variables. Fourteen cows were group-housed in a loose open-sided barn with a concrete floor and 10 m2 per head as space allowance ...

Global Enhancers and Constraints of Alien Range Size in Mammals: The Roles of Species Attributes, Invasion History and Ecological Contexts

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 34, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim The rapid global expansion of alien invasion fronts is profoundly impacting native ecosystems. Understanding the enhancers and constraints behind the range size of alien species is crucial for mitigating biodiversity loss. While mammals are among the most well‐studied taxa worldwide, their global invasion ecology remains under‐investigated.

Identifying Hub Genes for Heat Tolerance in Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) Using Transcriptome Data

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
Heat stress has a detrimental effect on the physiological and production performance of buffaloes. Elucidating the underlying mechanisms of heat stress is challenging, therefore identifying candidate genes is urgent and necessary.
