Critical Bubble Collapse

2018
Since their discovery by Choptuik (Phys Rev Lett 70:9–12, 1993, [1]), critical phenomena have been studied in many different contexts (Abrahams and Evans, Phys Rev Lett 70:2980–2983, 1993, [2], Healy and Laguna, Gen Relativ Gravit 46:1722, 2014, [3], Choptuik et al., Phys Rev D68:044007, 2003, [4], Hilditch et al., Phys Rev D88(10):103009, 2013, [5 ...

Cavitation Bubble Collapse

1995
Abstract In the preceding chapter some of the equations of bubble dynamics were developed and applied to problems of bubble growth. In this chapter we continue the discussion of bubble dynamics but switch attention to the dynamics of collapse and, in particular, consider the consequences of the violent collapse of vapor-filled ...

COLLAPSE OF SPHERICAL BUBBLES IN VISCOELASTIC LIQUIDS

The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 1991
Summary: An analysis is given of the collapse of a spherical bubble in a large body of an incompressible viscoelastic liquid. In a wide class of Oldroyd models, a scaling description for a final stage of the collapse is obtained. For Maxwell models which form a subclass of Oldroyd models, an asymptotic scaling behaviour is defined analytically and the ...

Nonspherical vapor bubble collapse

1970
Vapor bubble collapse problems lacking spherical symmetry are solved using a method of simulation designed especially for these problems. Viscosity and compressibility in the liquid are neglected. The method of simulation uses finite time steps and features an iterative technique for applying the boundary conditions at infinity directly to the liquid a

Aspherical Bubble Collapse and Sonoluminescence

1999
Laser induced bubbles make it possible to investigate cavitation bubble dynamics in detail [1], in particular during the final stages of collapse [2]. In this paper we extend our previous work by studying not only the bubble shape but also the light emission [3] during the collapse.

Blown Film Bubble Collapsing Improvement

Journal of Plastic Film & Sheeting, 1987
The forces exerted on the blown film bubble during the collapsing process are not uniformly distributed around the bubble. Standard collapsing geometry and the fric tional drag coefficient can be modified to improve this force distribution and reduce the force level.

Rayleigh–Taylor instability of violently collapsing bubbles

Physics of Fluids, 2002
In a classical paper Plesset has determined conditions under which a bubble changing in volume maintains a spherical shape. The stability analysis was further developed by Prosperetti to include the effects of liquid viscosity on the evolving shape modes.

Radiation from collapsing vacuum bubbles

Physical Review D, 1984
A method for quantizing scalar theories with unstable ground states is presented. The collapse of the ground-state vacuum bubble is modeled in an $S$-matrix formulation by using different coherent states for the incoming and outgoing ground states. Time-dependent coherent-state functions corresponding to a single vacuum bubble in both one and three ...

Observations on cavitation bubble collapse

1953
Experimental observations are made on collapsing cavitation bubbles. Bubbles generated by two different methods are studied. The first method consists of bubble generation and collapse by flow over a submerged body. This work is done in the High-Speed Water Tunnel of the Hydrodynamics Laboratory.

Collapse time of vapor bubbles

Journal of Engineering Physics, 1987
A formula is obtained for the collapse time of a vapor bubble with sharp pressure increase, taking account of the heat transfer between the bubble and the liquid.
