Rebounds of deformed cavitation bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Fluids, 2018
Presented here are experiments clarifying how the deformation of cavitation bubbles affects their rebound. Rebound bubbles carry the remaining energy of a bubble following its initial collapse, which dissipates energy mainly through shock waves, jets, and heat.

Deformation of soap bubbles in uniform magnetic fields

open access: yesSoft Matter, 2023
A soap bubble in the shape of a hemisphere can be altered by an electric field. When subjected to a vertical and uniform magnetic field, hemispherical bubbles made of ferrofluid soap undergo deformation resulting in entirely distinct shapes.

Vapor Bubble Deformation and Collapse near Free Surface

open access: yesFluids, 2023
Vapor bubbles are widely concerned in many industrial applications. The deformation and collapse of a vapor bubble near a free surface after being heated and raised from the bottom wall are investigated in this paper.

Probing Cell Deformability via Acoustically Actuated Bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesSmall, 2015
An acoustically actuated, bubble-based technique is developed to investigate the deformability of cells suspended in microfluidic devices. A microsized bubble is generated by an optothermal effect near the targeted cells, which are suspended in a microfluidic chamber.

Experimental study on damage mechanism of blood vessel by cavitation bubbles

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2023
Ultrasound-induced cavitation in blood vessels is a common scenario in medical procedures. This paper focuses on understanding the mechanism of microscopic damage to vessel walls caused by the evolution of cavitation bubbles within the vessels.

Sagging damage characteristics of hull girder with trapezoidal cross-section subjected to near-field underwater explosion

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2023
To investigate the overall damage characteristics and failure modes of a warship subjected to an underwater non-contact near-field explosion, a hull girder with a trapezoidal cross-section was designed, manufactured, and tested.

Numerical Simulation of Breathing Mode Oscillation on Bubble Detachment

open access: yesFluids, 2020
When a bubble detaches from a nozzle immersed in water, a sound is emitted owing to the detachment. The bubble deformation and sound emission generated after detachment has been investigated in many studies, in which the breathing mode with a natural ...

A Review of Bubble Dynamics in Liquid Metals

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Gas bubbles are of major importance in most metallurgical processes. They promote chemical reactions, homogenize the melt, or float inclusions. Thus, their dynamics are of crucial interest for the optimization of metallurgical processes.

Numerical solution of free-boundary problems in fluid mechanics. Part 3. Bubble deformation in an axisymmetric straining flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
We consider the deformation of a bubble in a uniaxial extensional flow for Reynolds numbers in the range 0.1 [less-than-or-eq, slant] R [less-than-or-eq, slant] 100.

On the dynamics and breakup of a bubble immersed in a turbulent flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Experimental investigations of the dynamics of a deformable bubble rising in a uniform turbulent flow are reported. The turbulence is characterized by fast PIV.
