Numerical investigation of acoustic cavitation and viscoelastic tissue deformation

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
Acoustic cavitation and tissue deformation are studied by modifying a level-set method for compressible two-phase flows to consider viscoelastic tissue deformation.

Development of a numerical method for multiphase flows using an electrostatic model in a wire-mesh sensor

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2021
Wire-mesh sensors (WMSs) have been used to measure various characteristics of bubbles, such as volume fraction, size and velocity. The WMS used in this study consists of a grid of nine by nine wires arranged in an orthogonal shape.

Mechanism study of bubble dynamics under the buoyancy effects

open access: yesNuclear Analysis, 2023
The motion of a single bubble in a 2-D vertical channel filled with stagnant or moving fluid is simulated for various sets of conditions using the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method. The volume of fluid (VOF) model is applied to track the interface

Turbulent Bubbly Channel Flow: Role of Bubble Deformability

open access: yes, 2011
This article describes the fluid dynamics video: "Turbulent Bubbly Channel Flow: Role of Bubble Deformability." The effect of bubble deformability on the flow rate of bubbly upflow in a turbulent vertical channel is examined using direct numerical simulations. A series of simulations with bubbles of decreasing deformability shows a transition from flow

Experimental study on the formation of two axial jets of cavitation bubbles near soft membranes with different thicknesses

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
A cavitation bubble collapses non-spherically, splits into two smaller bubbles, and induces two axial jets flowing in opposite directions near a soft membrane. The soft membrane is deformed and even pierced after the impact of the downward jet.

Corner transport upwind lattice Boltzmann model for bubble cavitation

open access: yes, 2018
Aiming to study the bubble cavitation problem in quiescent and sheared liquids, a third-order isothermal lattice Boltzmann (LB) model that describes a two-dimensional ($2D$) fluid obeying the van der Waals equation of state, is introduced.

Frequency Dependent Rheology of Vesicular Rhyolite [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Frequency dependent rheology of magmas may result from the presence of inclusions (bubbles, crystals) in the melt and/or from viscoelastic behavior of the melt itself.

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Identification of collapse patterns of cavitation bubbles close to a solid wall

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
The article describes different patterns of bubble deformation during the cavitation bubble collapse close to a solid wall for different bubble-wall distances. The bubble is generated by energy discharge in water.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting
