Risk analysis of the Unity 1.5T MR‐Linac adapt‐to‐shape workflow

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose The adapt‐to‐shape (ATS) workflow on the Unity MR‐Linac (Elekta AB, Stockholm, Sweden) allows for full replanning including recontouring and reoptimization5. Additional complexity to this workflow is added when the adaptation involves the use of MIM Maestro (MIM Software, Cleveland, OH) software in conjunction with ...

Recalcitrant bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2014
We demonstrate that thermocapillary forces may drive bubbles against liquid flow in 'anomalous' mixtures. Unlike 'ordinary' liquids, in which bubbles migrate towards higher temperatures, we have observed vapour bubbles migrating towards lower temperatures, therefore against the flow. This unusual behaviour may be explained by the temperature dependence

Using deep learning generated CBCT contours for online dose assessment of prostate SABR treatments

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Prostate Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) is an ultra‐hypofractionated treatment where small setup errors can lead to higher doses to organs at risk (OARs). Although bowel and bladder preparation protocols reduce inter‐fraction variability, inconsistent patient adherence still results in OAR variability.

Rational Belief Bubbles

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
We propose an extension of the class of rational expectations bubbles (REBs) to the more general rational beliefs setting of [1, 2]. In a potentially non-stationary but stationarizable environment, among a heterogenous population of agents, it is ...

Therapeutic management of severe spinal cord decompression sickness in a hyperbaric center

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2023
IntroductionSpinal cord decompression sickness (scDCS) unfortunately has a high rate of long-term sequelae. The purpose of this study was to determine the best therapeutic management in a hyperbaric center and, in particular, the influence of hyperbaric ...

Nested hierarchies in planar graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We construct a partial order relation which acts on the set of 3-cliques of a maximal planar graph G and defines a unique hierarchy. We demonstrate that G is the union of a set of special subgraphs, named `bubbles', that are themselves maximal planar ...

Implementation of needle‐tracking technology for real‐time transrectal ultrasound‐guided interstitial gynecological HDR brachytherapy: A feasibility study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To investigate the feasibility of adapting a commercial prostate biopsy system for transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)‐guided hybrid gynecological (GYN) high‐dose‐rate (HDR) brachytherapy (BT). Leveraging 3D‐TRUS and MR image fusion, the prototype system aims to improve real‐time needle placement accuracy.

Bubbles, Bubbles Everywhere! [PDF]

open access: yesPractical Neurology, 2003
Back in 1993 it had been a fairly average afternoon in the neurovascular clinic; a couple of obese, hypertensive smokers with clear-cut transient ischaemic attacks whose seemingly programmed lack of motivation to modify their vascular risk factors would subsequently challenge all the persuasive skills of my Specialist Nurse.

Universal shape and pressure inside bubbles appearing in van der Waals heterostructures

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Trapped substances between a two-dimensional (2D) crystal and an atomically flat substrate lead to the formation of bubbles. Their size, shape and internal pressure are determined by the competition between van der Waals attraction of the crystal to the ...

Understanding the Impact of Synthetic Hematocrit Levels and Biomimetic Channel Widths on Bubble Parameters in Vascular Systems on a Chip. [PDF]

open access: yesBiomimetics (Basel)
Gas embolism is a rare but life-threatening process characterized by the presence of gas bubbles in the venous or arterial systems. These bubbles, if sufficiently large or numerous, can block the delivery of oxygen to critical organs, in particular the ...
