Promiscuity in the Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis)

The Auk, 1990
THE MONOGAMOUS, colonially nesting male Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) will sometimes copulate opportunistically other females while guarding his own mate from other males. Such extrapair copulations (EPCs) have been reported in Cattle Egrets by Blaker (1969) and Lancaster (1970), but are described most fully by Fujioka and Yamagishi (1981).
